2018

Happy new year to everyone! As we leave 2017 in the past and start focusing on the future and making resolutions, please be aware of what you are experiencing right now. Sometimes we get so anxious about what’s going to happen that we miss what is happening in the present. In just a moment everything can change.
I am certainly looking forward to leaving 2017 behind. It was a year of sadness, anger, regret and disappointment in my life. I learned a lot and cried a lot in 2017. I’ve had to forgive when I wasn’t feeling very forgiving. I’ve had to pick myself up, dust myself off and carry on.
Already today I have put together a planner and a map of what I want to do this year and next year. I’ve spent the whole day planning what I’m going to do in the future. I have big plans. I have so many things I want to accomplish. I have so many things that I want to do for 2018. My mind has been on overdrive planning how I’m going to reach my goals.
And then I remember that I need to see what’s happening around me right now. So I take just 10 minutes to close my eyes and focus on my breath moving in and out of my body. That’s all. Just 10 minutes to bring my anxiety about the future down. Just 10 minutes to calm my mind. Just 10 minutes to bring me back to the present.
I encourage everyone who starts to feel anxious or nervous about the future or depressed about the past to just take 10 minutes (or whatever amount of time you need) to focus on right now. A few minutes to not think about anything except the sounds, smells, and breath that’s happening right now.
