Fear is a such a broad subject.  There are many things to fear in life.  How we respond to our fears is what sets us apart.    What do you fear?  I have a huge list of things I fear.  I’m afraid of failing and rejection.  I’m afraid of flying and heights.  I’m afraid of social gatherings and being around people I don’t know. 

 

These fears never go away.  I have learned to embrace them and conquer them. I purposely put myself in situations that scare me.  It makes me face my fears and makes me a stronger person. Imagine my first visit to a yoga studio!  It was so awkward to be the fat yoga chick.  It still is awkward!  But I have learned that yoga is my personal practice and true yoga never compares.  I have learned to overcome my fears and face what terrifies me.

 

What drives me to confront that which terrifies me?  It’s my zest for life, for experiencing new things.  If I let my fears control me I would never try anything new.  I measure my life by experiences.  I have been lucky to be able to go out and try new things.

 

Yoga has helped me conquer my fears.  Yoga constantly challenges me.  Yoga encourages you to try new things, to push the boundaries and that if you practice, you will eventually learn the pose.  It may take weeks, or months, or years, but to face the fear of trying to go further in the pose is very satisfying.  So try that arm balance or splits or big toe pose.  Don’t be afraid to try something new.  You never know what you are capable of until you do it!
